The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining will launch a $5-million Rabbit Production Programme to boost food security.

Under the programme, the ministry will facilitate the distribution of 300 pairs of rabbits to farmers and schools across the island for breeding.

In seeking to strengthen food security, the programme aims to develop protein diversity island-wide while providing an inclusive and productive source of income, especially for young people. It will also help support and enhance rural livelihoods.

At the same time, the ministry plans to strengthen cattle production to drive food security in the nation. This will be achieved through a $10-million investment to execute a Beef Cattle Expansion Programme. Under this programme, male calves for semi-grazing systems will be provided to young and female farmers, empowering them to drive agriculture forward.
