Greece women will take on Jamaica in a senior international rugby competition at the Elene Venizelou Stadium, Crete (kick-off 2 pm, local time).

They will be playing for world ranking points for the first time on Sunday, October 17, as part of a double-header with the men, who face Germany in Euro C, at the said stadium. Jamaica’s Reggae Warriors will be looking for their first victory in their fifth game, while Greece are aiming to build on two encounters in 2025 against the United States and the Netherlands.

“This international is an important part of our strategy to continue growing the women’s game and strengthening the connection between our domestic competition and the national team,” explains Greece Women’s head coach, Nikolas Stephanou.

For her, “fixtures like this give our players something to aspire to, while providing greater visibility for women’s rugby league in Greece. We want every opportunity at international level to contribute to building a stronger domestic game and a sustainable pathway for the future.”

For his part, Reggae Warriors head coach Darren Collins responded, “The preparation has been one that the players and staff have embraced. From our first training session together, the ladies set themselves high standards and are continually raising the bar, with everyone understanding what it means to represent Jamaica on the international stage.

According to him, “We have worked hard on all areas of our game, including fitness, defence, attack, communication, and game management. Just as importantly, we have focused on building the culture, standards, and unity that we want within this Jamaica team. The players have shown tremendous commitment, travelling from different areas and making sacrifices to be part of the squad.”

In conclusion, Collins emphasised, “We are not travelling to Greece simply to take part or just to try to make history. We are going there to compete and show what this Jamaica team is capable of.”
