Public should rely on commercial banks and/or other deposit taking entities for exchange of foreign currencies

The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) has temporarily suspended the offering of teller services until tomorrow (August 13) in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The suspension took effect yesterday. The BOJ is reminding the public that coin exchange services have been suspended since August 2020.
Given the suspension, the BOJ is recommending that, for the exchange of foreign currencies and other banking services, the public should rely on their commercial banks and/or other deposit taking entities. As it relates to coin exchange, the public should continue to utilise the services of Grace Kennedy Payment Services at their locations islandwide.
Jamaica’s Central Bank advised that the critical systems which support transactions in the financial markets will continue to operate.
The BOJ said it regretted any inconvenience that these temporary changes may cause and encouraged all its customers and stakeholders to continue to take the necessary steps to remain safe.
The Central Bank said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
The BOJ said it remained committed to serving the public and encouraged all its customers and stakeholders to continue to take the necessary steps to remain safe and indicated that any further updates would be provided as required.
