People’s National Party (PNP) general secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has expressed disapproval of recent comments made by the standard-bearer for Trelawny Northern, Dennis Meadows.
Meadows came under public scrutiny after following a viral video where he could be heard showing support to lottery scammers.
“Me a speak to the youth man them on the corner, especially the one them weh call themself choppa. Let me tell you straight, I have no problem with a man if him want chop, because them chop us during slavery, so nothing no wrong if we chop them back,” Meadows said during the final leg of the 2024 Local Government Election campaign.

However, the PNP gen-sec says the party does not condone nor support any endorsement or tolerance of criminal activities, including lottery scams or any form of fraud.
“Dennis Meadows’ unfortunate comments do not align with the principles and values of the PNP, and the party distances itself from any suggestion that it would tolerate or endorse illegal activities,” Campbell said.
The PNP candidate has since issued a public apology and withdrew his comments.
Campbell also extended an apology to the public for any confusion caused by Meadows’ inappropriate comments.
