The Jamaica Meteorological Service says citizens should expect a mix of cloudy conditions and shower activity today (August 22) as a trough dominates weather over the central Caribbean.

In its 5:00 am forecast, the Met Service expects unstable weather conditions to persist until Thursday, especially during the afternoons.

This morning starts with showers and thunderstorms mainly across sections of eastern parishes, becoming cloudy elsewhere. Cloudy skies give way to periods of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, the agency indicated, which would affect most areas of the island into Monday evening.

Further afield, a tropical wave straddles sections of the western Caribbean, while another plume of Saharan dust is en route to the region, as pictured in colourised satellite imagery.

Meanwhile, maximum temperatures anticipated for major Jamaican cities, Kingston and Montego Bay, are 32 and 33 degrees Celcius respectively.

Additionally, fisherfolk and marine interests are advised that a small craft warning is now in effect for inshore and offshore areas of the north and south coasts due to strong winds and rough seas in the vicinity of thundershowers.
