Cinco de Mayo, rooted in history and widely reinterpreted today, now brings together culture, food, and music in a shared moment of celebration. Tequila anchors that experience, and this year, Don Julio takes the spotlight, demonstrating its range across bold, tropical profiles and more refined, layered cocktails. That versatility positions it as a defining choice for the season, whether the setting calls for high-energy gatherings or a more considered dining experience.

At Mezza Luna, the team is already exploring that range through a cocktail programme that balances creativity with restraint. Santosh Pradhan, Cluster Manager at Mystic Group, breaks down each drink with clarity, offering insight into the thinking behind the line-up in a way that feels both accessible and deliberate.

Santorini Sunset

Pradhan starts with a crowd-pleaser, a cocktail designed to immediately set the tone.

“With this one, you’re building something bright and inviting,” he explains. “The idea is to let the fruit come forward, but still allow the tequila to hold its structure.”

Ingredients:
 · 45 ml Don Julio
 · 20 ml Malibu
 · 15 ml passionfruit pulp
 · 1 strawberry
 · 20 ml lime juice
 · 15 ml clear syrup
 · Ice

“Add everything into your shaker with ice,” he continues. “When you shake, you’re not just chilling the drink, you’re blending those flavours so nothing feels separate. Once you pour, what you should get is a smooth, tropical cocktail with just enough acidity to keep it balanced.”

Za’atar Breeze Martini

From there, the profile shifts into something more nuanced. “This is where we start to play with contrast,” Pradhan notes. “You’re introducing something savoury into a space people usually associate with citrus and sweetness.”

Ingredients:
 · 60 ml za’atar spiced tea
 · 45 ml Don Julio
 · 20 ml lime juice
 · 20 ml clear syrup
 · Pinch of za’atar

“Shake it well with ice, then strain it clean into your martini glass,” he advises. “The finish is important here, just a light sprinkle of za’atar. It adds aroma first, then flavour. It’s subtle, but it changes the entire experience of the drink.”

Blue Capri

The Blue Capri brings the energy back up, both visually and on the palate. “This one is more expressive,” Pradhan says. “It’s the kind of cocktail that catches your eye first, then keeps your attention with the flavour.”

“Once you shake and strain, you’ll see that vibrant colour come through,” he adds. “But what matters is the balance, the citrus cuts through the sweetness, and the tequila keeps it grounded.”

Ingredients:
 · 45 ml Don Julio
 · 5 ml blue curaçao
 · 20 ml lime juice
 · 20 ml clear syrup
 · 30 ml Malibu

Cardamom Kiss

As a little brawta, Pradhan leans into warmth and depth with the Cardamon Kiss. “This one is a little more layered,” he explains. “It’s still refreshing, but there’s a complexity that builds as you drink.”

Ingredients:
 · 60 ml Don Julio
 · 60 ml pineapple juice
 · Pinch of cardamom
 · 30 ml lime juice
 · 10 ml clear syrup

“Shake everything with ice and strain,” he says. “The cardamom should never overpower. It’s there to sit in the background, giving the drink a gentle spice that works with the sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the lime.”

Across each cocktail, the method remains intentionally simple, but the results feel elevated. It is a reminder that good cocktails are less about complication and more about balance, technique, and understanding how each ingredient plays its role.

As Cinco de Mayo approaches, Don Julio stands as a starting point; the tequila that invites experimentation while still delivering consistency in every pour.
