City & Guilds will use its June 2026 Chief Examiners’ Reports, prepared by City & Guilds in London, to help teachers identify where students need more support and refine their preparation for next year’s examinations. Teachers from approximately 200 high schools and HEART academies combined are expected to participate in online tutorial workshops beginning Monday, 28th September.

These workshops represent annual support provided to teachers by City & Guilds.

“The response from students, teachers and school administrators who participated in last year’s programme was overwhelming,” said Professor Carol Clarke, City & Guilds Subject Specialist and Consultant for English and Vice President Emerita of The Mico University College. “The endorsement of principals from participating schools speaks to the value they place on this support for teachers and learners.”

The sessions will cover Mathematics Skills and Customer Service on Monday, 28th September; English Skills on Tuesday, 29th September; and Employability Skills on Wednesday, 30th September and Thursday, 1st October. They support teachers delivering City & Guilds qualifications.

Facilitators will discuss syllabus content, assessment strategies, classroom delivery techniques and areas identified in the examiners’ reports where candidates need additional help. Teachers will be able to question facilitators and share approaches with colleagues.

In the June 2026 examinations, 66% of candidates who sat Stage 3 Mathematics achieved certification. Across all stages of Mathematics Skills, the pass rate in Ministry high schools was 58%, up two percentage points from the previous year.

“The Mathematics results show progress, but the examiners’ reports also tell us where candidates need more support,” said Marva A. Duncanson, City & Guilds Caribbean Representative. “We are putting those findings directly into teachers’ hands and using the workshops to turn them into practical preparation for learners.”

Teachers must confirm participation no later than the day before the session they wish to attend. 

Free and ongoing support for participating teachers continues throughout the academic year via a suite of tutorial materials that include the City & Guilds Quality Academy, Practice Papers, Tutor’s Guides, Student Handbooks and SmartScreen, its online teaching and learning platform.

Since 2011, City & Guilds has worked with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information to expand access to internationally recognised academic, employability, technical and vocational qualifications for Jamaican learners.
