The Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) is encouraging students at the primary, preparatory and high school levels to recognise outstanding teachers by nominating them in its ‘Dream Big’ campaign.

This Teachers’ Day (May 2) three teachers will each receive a dream gift as indicated by their student nominee.

In a release on Thursday (April 13), the company said teachers play a crucial role in shaping the society’s future by educating and inspiring the next generation to think critically and creatively.

“We want to recognise their hard work and dedication. We want to motivate them to continue making a positive impact on our children’s lives, despite the challenges they face,” the company said.

Samantha Samuda, VP of marketing and human resources said, “ICWI is proud to support our children to make their teachers’ dreams come true. We believe that at the heart of every thriving society are its educators. We recognise and applaud teachers’ unwavering dedication to shaping our future generations. Your hard work and commitment to our children’s education is truly invaluable, and we are grateful for all that you do,” 

The company rewarded three teachers during its Teachers’ Day campaign last year and is looking to do the same in 2023.

“Based on the success and impact of that initiative, it was an easy decision to do something similar this year. We want to continue to show appreciation for our teachers while fostering our children’s development,” Samuda said.

HOW TO ENTER

This year, children across Jamaica are encouraged to show appreciation for their favourite teacher by submitting an essay of 500 words or less. This essay should explain how their teacher encouraged them to dream big.

Students also get the chance to suggest a gift for their nominated teacher. Nominations close April 29, 2023.
