Fifth monkeypox case reported in Jamaica

Jamaica has recorded a fifth case of the monkeypox virus.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported that the case was confirmed last week- the patient a male from Kingston and St Andrew.

This is the first case to be recorded in the country’s capital and the third locally transmitted case overall.

Previously it was reported by Our Today that there were two locally transmitted cases and two contracted through travels.

So far there has been two recoveries.

The virus continues to spread throughout the Caribbean, with Guyana also recording an additional case, bringing its total to two.

Minister of Health in Guyana Dr Frank Anthony said the country recorded its second monkeypox case during his daily update today (August 29).
