Former All-Pro offensive lineman Tre Johnson has died at the age of 54 after passing away suddenly on Sunday while on vacation with his family. 

His wife confirmed the heartbreaking news, though the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Johnson made his name in the NFL with the franchise now known as the Washington Commanders, where he became a standout on the offensive line after being selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft. He reached the peak of his career in 1999, earning both Pro Bowl honours and Second-team All-Pro recognition.

The Commanders paid tribute to Johnson, describing the loss as devastating. After stepping away from football following an eight-year career, Johnson transitioned into education, working as a history teacher at Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. In recent months, he had taken a leave of absence due to health challenges.

His sudden passing has left former teammates, students, and fans remembering a player who made his impact both on the field and in the classroom.
