Opposition Spokesperson on Labour and Sports, Wavell Hinds, has congratulated Reggae Girlz captain Khadija “Bunny” Shaw on being named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Women’s Players’ Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season. 

Shaw, who plays for Manchester City, earned the prestigious award for the second time after another exceptional season in which she scored 21 goals, secured her third consecutive Women’s Super League Golden Boot and helped Manchester City to its first WSL title in a decade.

Hinds said Shaw’s achievement is a tremendous source of pride for Jamaica and a powerful example of the heights that Jamaican talent can reach. “Bunny Shaw continues to demonstrate the excellence, determination and talent that Jamaican athletes possess. To be recognised by her fellow professionals as the outstanding women’s player in England is an extraordinary achievement, and one that should make every Jamaican proud,” Hinds said.

He said Shaw’s success should also reinforce the importance of investing in Jamaica’s sporting talent and creating stronger pathways for young athletes, particularly girls, to develop and compete at the highest levels. “Her journey should inspire our young footballers to dream bigger, work harder and believe that the world stage is within their reach. It is also a reminder that we must do more to identify, nurture and support our talent from an early age.”

The Spokesperson extended his best wishes to Shaw for continued success and commended her for the leadership she continues to provide to the Reggae Girlz.
