Disturbing early images and video out of Haiti are heralding a tale of death and destruction after this morning’s magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck to the southwest of the embattled nation.
In these images obtained by Our Today, crumbled buildings can be seen, though it is not clear in exactly which section of the country.
In the video below, a distraught, out of breath citizen, speaking in Haitian dialect, surveys the destruction as others walk around trying to come to terms with what has just happened.
The quake, which was also felt in Jamaica and other countries in the Caribbean, struck at 7:29 am.

It is already being compared to the January 12, 2010 earthquake of magnitude 7.0 that resulted in a death toll ranging from 100,000 to around 160,000, though disputed Haitian government figures estimated deaths fom 220,000 to 316,000. The Haitian government also estimated that 250,000 Haitian residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged as a result of the 2010 quake.
