Investment and Commerce Minister Aubyn Hill says Jamaica’s net international reserves (NIR) have grown to a record US$5.85 billion.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Outsource2Jamaica 2025 Conference in Montego Bay on Thursday (April 10), Hill highlighted the strengths of the Andrew Holness led government, challenging critics to find a non-oil-producing developing nation other than Jamaica, which has gone through several crises and has presented 10 consecutive budgets without raising taxes.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Andrew Holness in a post on his Facebook page indicated that Jamaica is stronger and more resilient than ever before with the NIR now at an all-time high, representing an increase of 5.7 per cent when compared to February 2025 and 13 per cent when compared to March 2024.
According to him, “This increase means Jamaica is in a better position to weather global shocks or economic challenges without putting pressure on you. Right now, our NIR could cover: 48 weeks of goods imports, 31 weeks of goods and services imports, that’s nearly a full year of cushion if we ever needed it. This is smart and strategic economic management in the interest of all Jamaicans.”
