Jamie Murray, the first British doubles player to reach world number one, has announced his retirement from professional tennis after a career spanning more than 20 years.

 The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who has not competed since last year’s US Open, says he is ready for a new chapter beyond the sport.

A left-hander known for his sharp play at the net, Murray captured 34 doubles titles and enjoyed memorable moments alongside his younger brother Andy Murray. The pair played a key role in Great Britain’s historic Davis Cup triumph in 2015, ending a 79-year wait for the title with standout performances in crucial ties.

Murray also found great success with Brazil’s Bruno Soares, winning the Australian Open and US Open in 2016 as the duo finished the year as the world’s top-ranked pair. In mixed doubles, he claimed five titles, including two Wimbledon victories with Jelena Jankovic in 2007 and Martina Hingis a decade later.
