The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) has launched a pre-purchase ticket system, as it moves closer toward implementing a cashless system.

However, this pre-purchase system is limited to specific bus routes, namely the hill routes of 54 Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre to Border, and route 53 Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre to Above Rocks.

The public bus company says the new pre-purchase ticket system is being introduced as a direct response to feedback provided by daily commuters seeking to minimise wait times and elevate service quality.

Commuters availing themselves of the pre-purchase ticket facility have to present their pre-purchase receipts for verification by JUTC personnel, thereby circumventing the inconvenience of cash transactions during boarding. This enhancement, the JUTC says, is poised to alleviate the issues faced by passengers due to prolonged bus wait times.

At the same time, the JUTC is actively promoting its top-up smartercard, which not only minimises boarding times but also offers a secure and practical payment solution for the commuter’s daily travel needs.

To ensure a smooth set up of the new system, JUTC representatives will be on-hand to assist and educate commuters on the intricacies of the process.
