Twenty-eight-year-old David Bromfield, the head coach of Blue Seals Swim Club, is among 30 recipients of grant awards to participate in the 54th Annual World Swim Coaches Convention to be held in Las Vegas, in the United States, from September 7 to 11.

Known as the Thirty Under Thirty Award, it provides opportunity for young swim coaches under 30 years old to participate in the convention for the first time.

The American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) is the largest organisation in the world for swim coaches and more than 1,000 industry professionals from over 25 countries will participate in the convention.

Bromfield, the only Jamaican recipient, is a member of the ASCA.

He has a first degree in sport sciences from the University of Technology (UTech), a graduate diploma in Coaching for the Disabled from the University of Leipzig, Germany, and a masters degree in business management from the University of the West Indies (UWI).

Bromfield said he considered it “an honour to be provided this opportunity to learn, network and enhance my skills to benefit swimming in Jamaica”.

Coaches attending will range from ‘Learn to Swim’ coaches up to the Olympic level and in the group will also be swim business owners and managers.
