Mayberry Jamaican Equities Limited (MJE) has opened applications for a new J$1.5 billion secured bond, offering investors a fixed 9.50% per annum return over a 36-month tenor.

Mayberry Investments Limited (MIL) is acting as Lead Broker for the offer, which forms part of a broader push to give Jamaican investors more fixed-income options at a time when the Bank of Jamaica’s policy rate stands at 5.50%.

The bond pays a fixed rate for its entire term, with no reset and no repricing over the life of the instrument. Interest is paid quarterly, on December 30, March 30, June 30, and September 30 each year, with the first payment due December 30, 2026. Investors can enter the offer with as little as J$20,000, in increments of J$10,000 thereafter, well below the amounts typically required for direct bond purchases. The bond is secured by a charge over a basket of MJE’s JSE-listed shares, held by JCSD Trustee Services Limited as Security Trustee.

Unlike returns on equity holdings, which move with the market, a bond’s terms are agreed at the outset. The interest payment is a contractual obligation rather than a decision left to a company’s board, and the maturity date is known in advance. Locking in a fixed 9.50% for three years lets investors secure today’s yield over a longer horizon, though the higher return reflects the higher risk associated with corporate credit, which, unlike a bank deposit, is not covered by any deposit protection scheme.

At 9.50% per annum, every J$100,000 invested is scheduled to pay J$2,375 in interest each quarter, J$9,500 over a year, and J$28,500 across the full 36-month term, with principal due at maturity. On the same illustrative basis, a J$500,000 investment would pay J$11,875 quarterly, or J$142,500 over the full term, while a J$1,000,000 investment would pay J$23,750 quarterly, or J$285,000 over the full term. These figures are illustrative only, calculated on a 360-day year of twelve 30-day months, before taxes, fees and charges, and assume the bonds are held to maturity.

Applications opened on Monday, August 24, 2026, and the offer is scheduled to close at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, subject to the Company’s right to shorten or extend the subscription period as set out in the Prospectus.
