More details have been made available to the public regarding the police ‘sting’ operation in Jacks Hill, St Andrew on Monday, which had left five people dead.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) reported that it received intelligence from undisclosed sources about criminals and illegal weapons located at 10 Jacks Hill Road.
Members of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) were sent to the property in response to this tip-off, arriving in the area at about 12:40 pm.
Upon their arrival, the police were met with a hail of gunfire. The C-TOC team then moved to engage the suspects, who rushed to escape the scene.
An intense running battle then ensued. By the time the shooting stopped, the police were able to detain five men, all suffering from bullet wounds. Several sources claim that a sixth man was able to escape the scene. No lawmen were injured in the clash.
The captured suspects were quickly rushed to hospital, but none survived their wounds. The JCF has not released the identities of the deceased, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
It has been theorised that the men involved were ‘contract killers’, with the police having moved to halt a murder plot.
C-TOC recovered an M16 rifle, a shotgun, Glock 17 pistol, and a Taurus 9mm pistol from the scene, along with several rounds of ammunition.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force is still probing into the matter, and searches are underway to find another suspect who escaped the scene.
