A minor earthquake was felt in parts of Jamaica early Monday morning, according to the Earthquake Unit.

The Earthquake Unit reported that the tremor occurred at approximately 6:50 am EST on Monday, March 9. Preliminary data indicate the quake had a magnitude of 3.9 and originated at a depth of about 20 kilometres.

The epicentre was located roughly 7 kilometres north of Bull Bay, in eastern St Andrew Parish.

Residents in Kingston and St Andrew Parish reported feeling the tremor, though there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Earthquake Unit has invited members of the public who felt the shaking to submit reports through its online “Did You Feel It?” platform to assist with data collection and analysis.

Jamaica sits near the boundary of the Caribbean and North American tectonic plates, making small earthquakes relatively common across the island.
