President of the Peoples National Party (PNP), Mark Golding has written to Member of Parliament Hugh Graham, accepting his resignation from the Shadow Cabinet.

“The Opposition Leader also thanked him for his service in that capacity and personally wished him well,” the PNP said in a statement on Tuesday (April 4).

In a social media post on Monday (April 3) Graham announced his resignation from the PNP’s Shadow Cabinet where he served as Opposition Spokesman for Commerce, Science and Technology.

In a social media post, Graham shared a letter that he wrote to the party.

In the letter addressed to Golding, Graham said he was resigning from some of his official roles.

While Graham did not explicitly state the decision behind his resignation, he said, “As I had promised my mother if it should ever happen that I don’t think my purpose is to serve the people who have elected me, I would step away with the hope that they would be better served.”

Along with his resignation as Opposition Spokesman on Commerce, Science and Technology Graham also announced that he was stepping down with immediate effect as councillor for the Lluidas Vale Division.

The letter was copied to the PNP General Secretary, Dr Dayton Campbell and the Chairman of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, Norman Scott.

Graham was first elected Councillor for the Lluidas Vale Division on December 5, 2007, winning almost 70 per cent of the votes.

“It has been an honour to serve the people of NW St Catherine as councillor and spokesperson. As to my people in the Lluidas Vale division, I am prepared to serve you in whatever way, capacity or opportunity that may arise, as I believe I should serve the people only to make their lives better,” Graham said.

Graham is the current Member of Parliament for north west St Catherine.
