The Trelawny police have detained a second suspect in connection with the fatal assault of 15-year-old girl in Cotton Tree District, Albert Town.

He has been named as Tyrese Brown otherwise known as TJ or Sheetman from Allside, Trelawny.

Head of the Trelawny Police Division, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Winston Milton, said the suspect is still being questioned by the police.

Milton said that his team of investigators has been making steady progress and urged those with information regarding the incident to come forward.

Jamila Cole was reportedly raped and beaten while her mother and female cousin were also physically assaulted by intruders at their home on Sunday, August 6.

Cole succumbed to her injuries in hospital on Monday, August 7, while her mother and cousin remain hospitalised.

The police say the first suspect was questioned and released on Monday.

The crime has since sparked widespread condemnation from members of the political directorate and advocacy groups.
