Jamaica just fell short in winning the Unity Cup, losing to Nigeria 4-5 on penalties after battling to a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Gtech Community Stadium in west London on Saturday (May 31).

The tournament has been brought back in 2025 for the first time in 21 years, and African powerhouse Nigeria emerged victorious.

Moses Simon (9th) and Samuel Chukwueze (53^rd) scored for Nigeria while Kaheim Dixon (12th) and Jon Russell (63^rd) replied for Jamaica.

Simon of French club Nantes opened the scoring in the ninth minute, slotted home after Cyril Dessers got in behind the defence and rolled the ball across the face of goal.

But the Reggae Boyz hit back quickly courtesy of Charlton Athletics player Dixon tapped home following a brilliant run by the ever dangerous Renaldo Cephas.

Chukwueze restored Nigera’s advantage from the edge of the area with several Reggae Boyz around him he found space to ripple home a low grounder.

But Cephas, who with his pace has been a menace to defenders, flew down the left flank and his cross was tapped home by Russell.

With no further goals, it went straight to penalty kicks and Jamaica’s Dwayne Atkinson who took the fourth penalty hit the crossbar in what proved to be the only missed spot kick.

Richard King, Isaac Hayden, Ravel Morrison, and captain Amarii converted for Jamaica.

But the Super Eagles were perfect from the spot as Kelechi Iheanachi, Simon, Tolu Aro Kodore, Bruno Onyemacchi and Christanus Uche all scored from the spot.
