Russel Brand has been charged with rape and sexual assault which threatens his career.

The brash British comedian and actor-turned-podcaster will appear in Court in London on May 2.

Two years ago Brand faced a number of sexual misconduct allegations which he denied.

The Sunday Times has done an investigation into allegations made by a number of women.

Now a professed Christian, he follows notable celebrities Diddy and Andrew Tate, who are also facing rape and sexual assault charges.

Jaswant Narwal, a prosecutor at the Crown Prosecutor Service (CPS) said: “We carefully reviewed the evidence after a police investigation into allegations made following the broadcast of a Channel 4 documentary in September 2023.

“We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with offences including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault.”

Brand moved to the United States claiming British authorities were out to get him and that there was a chance he would be charged.

Four women have come forward and said Brand sexually assaulted them over a seven-year period while he was working for the BBC.

Russel Brand refutes these allegations, writing: “What I never was, was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I’m now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile.”

The charges pertain to sexual assaults allegedly taking place between 1999 and 2005. Russel Brand is 50, married with three children.

He struggles with bipolar disorder.

“You can get attached to and addicted to anything… Unless your personal identity is surrendered to a higher purpose, most obviously and notably Christ Jesus. Like it says in John, there is only one bread that will fulfil you,” said Brand.
