
Danniel Thomas-Dodd threw a season-best 19.26m to win the shot put at the American Track League meet in Tennessee on Sunday (June 6). The throw erased her previous season-best of 19.17m set on April 10 and signals a welcome return to top-form for the 2019 World Championships silver medalist.
The 28-year-old Jamaican topped a strong field of throwers that included the USA’s Jessica Ramsay. The American threw 18.78m for the runner-up spot. Her compatriot Raven Saunders was third with a throw of 18.50m.
Emerging Jamaican thrower Lloydricia Cameron was fourth with a comparatively modest throw of 17.57m.
The 2018 World U20 400m silver medalist, Christopher Taylor, continued to show that he is making progress at Tumbleweed in Florida when he ran another season-best of 45.67 for a second place finish in the one-lap sprint.
Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas, the current world champion, ran 45.06 to win the race in which Quintaveon Poole was third in 45.92.
Meanwhile, another Jamaican 400m hurdler, Leah Nugent, was dragged to a season-best 55.34 by the extraordinarily talented American Sydney McLaughlin, who ran a world-leading 52.83 in her first race in the event this season.

Sage Watson of Canada was third in 56.04, while Sparkle McKnight of Trinidad and Tobago also ran a season-best 56.06 for fourth.
The USA’s Andre Hudson ran 10.27 to win the 100m dash in which Jevaughn Minzie finished fourth in 10.41.
Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Mohammed (10.32) and Canada’s Bismark Boateng (10.35) took the other podium spots.
Also on Sunday, over at the USATF Showcase in Prairie View, Texas, Ryan Brown became the fifth Jamaican to go beyond eight metres in the long jump when he soared out to 8.04m for victory over countryman Damar Forbes, who got 7.97m for second place.
Joseph Gotch also jumped 7.97, but was third.
Shadae Lawrence was second in the discus throw with her best effort of 62.48. The winner, Valrie Allman of the USA, powered the disc out to 67.74m.

Rachel Dincoff threw 59.78m for third.
Jahnoy Thompson clocked 20.79 for a second-place finish in the 200m won by Elijah Morrison in 20.61.
Amere Lattin was third in 20.83.
Javon Francis ran 46.05 for third-place in the 400m that was won by Wilbert London III in 45.45. Kahmari Montgomery was second in 45.83.
Inika McPherson cleared 1.90m to win the high jump in which Antigua and Barbuda’s Priscilla Frederick-Loomis was third after she cleared 1.82m, the same height as runner-up Michelle Spires.
