St James men hit with lottery scamming charges

Two men from St James were arrested and charged by members of the Lottery Scam Task Force and charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act.

The arrests took place during operations in the parish on Monday, September 4.

One of the accused is 29-year-old Roxroy Baachas, a customer service supervisor from Mountain View Lane, Westgate Hills in St James, who was charged with possession of identity information.

Baachas is accused of using his position at a call centre to manipulate billing on customer accounts. Investigators also discovered files containing identity information of individuals residing abroad during an examination of his mobile phone.

The other man accused is 21-year-old Jevar Maxwell, a special service agent from Over River, St James. He is facing charges of possession of identity information and possession of access device.

Maxwell came under suspicion when members of the Jamaica Customs Agency Contraband Enforcement Team observed him making multiple withdrawals from an ATM over three days. He was arrested at the Sangster International Airport.
