The Sir Henry Morgan Anglers Association officially launched the 62nd Annual Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament on Thursday, October 9, at 100 on 100 Hope Road. 

The highly anticipated event will take place from October 22 to 25, 2025, at the Ole’ Marina in Port Antonio, Portland, continuing a proud legacy of sport fishing, camaraderie, and community engagement.

During the launch, Chairman of the Sir Henry Morgan Anglers Association, Maxim Rochester, shared highlights from last year’s successful tournament, which saw an impressive 26 marlin caught and released, averaging nearly two marlin per participating boat.

“This year’s tournament date was carefully selected based on the moon phase, which should allow for an even higher yield for our anglers,” said Rochester, in anticipation of exciting prospects. 

Title sponsor Sterling Asset Management Ltd. highlighted its devotion to the tournament and the values it represents. “This tournament holds a very special place in our hearts. We are incredibly proud to have been serving as a sponsor for over a decade,” said Marian Ross-Ammar, Vice-President, Trading and Investment at Sterling Asset Management Ltd. “It has now formed part of our tradition as a company, and it’s a way for us to show not only our love for sport but also our commitment to community and continuity. A standout feature of the event is the Canoe Tournament, a special, local-angler fishing competition held alongside the Marlin Tournament.

It gives traditional canoe fishermen a platform to fish in their own vessels, often using hand-held lines rather than the sportfishing boat rigs used by the main tournament competitors.

Rochester continued, “This tournament is unique in that it allows local fisherfolk from Portland and surrounding parishes to actively participate, bringing the community into the heart of the sport. It has become so popular that we’ve had to limit entries to 60 canoes, with a maximum of three fisherfolk per boat. Yes, I say fisherfolk because women have become an integral part of the tournament.”

As the Association looks toward the future, Rochester acknowledged the importance of generational transition within the club’s leadership. “It’s a natural passing of the torch from those of us who have been steering this ship for some time to those who will take it into the next era,” said Rochester.
