The St James police have arrested a suspect for the murder of five homeless people in the parish between June and August of this year.
The man, whose identity is being withheld pending charges, was arrested yesterday after the police used forensic and technological prowess to link him to the cases.
Police Chief Major General Antony Anderson made the revelation during an interview with the
Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Corporate Communications Unit.
“I believe over the last two months we’ve had five homeless persons killed by stabbing down here, one survived the case, and it is really due to good police work on the part of the St James police, that we now have the perpetrator in custody [he is] still being questioned and will be charged soon.
“We’re getting breakthroughs on these cases. The attacks on those homeless people were really what you call a senseless set of killings, but it’s good that that person is now in our custody,” said Anderson.
He also thanked the St James police for their determination to bring the perpetrator to justice and promised more information would follow as it becomes available.
