The local Met Service in a tweet on Sunday (August 8) said that there would likely be showers and a few thunderstorms in the Jamaica area over the next few days.

According to the Met Service, the forecasted inclement weather is due to a trough.

In addition, the entity said that it was monitoring at least two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic Ocean.

The systems, according to the Met Service have “some potential” for cyclone development but posed no threat to Jamaica at this time.

According to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), two storms brewing in the Atlantic each have the potential to form into tropical depressions by midweek

The NHC says each storm has a 50% chance of forming into a tropical depression.

Forecasters are predicting that at least one of the systems, the western disturbance, would move west-northwest into the far eastern Caribbean Sea by late Monday, then move near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

By midweek it is projected to near Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
