Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton is urging Jamaicans to be weary of persons who have been pretending to be the minister in order to solicit favours and funds on his behalf.

While speaking with Our Today a short while ago the minister said that he received reports from three different persons who said that they had encounters with individuals pretending to be the health minister.

“Three people from last night to this morning have called me to say that they were called by someone purporting to be me in different parishes. The persons include a medical doctor, a business man and another doctor and [they are] soliciting favours and funds. Clearly I never made those calls nor did I authorize those calls and I want to nip it in the bud,” said Tufton.

He noted that the matter has been reported to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and urged citizens to report or ignore such calls.

“I have not been making any phone calls or calls to anyone and I just want to encourage the public if they receive such calls they should report the matter to the police or just ignore them. It’s an unfortunate part of our society, the scamming or for want of a better word the impersonation for favour and it is quite obviously based on the three calls I’ve received that I am now a victim,” he told Our Today.
