The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) has successfully concluded its 2026 Roadshow, following a seven-stop outreach initiative that took the University directly into communities across Jamaica to connect Jamaicans with educational opportunities, admissions support and key partner services.

The Roadshow, which ran from 28 July to 28 August, made stops in Manchester, Clarendon, St. James, St. Ann, Portland and St. Thomas before culminating in Kingston. Prospective students and members of the public were able to engage directly with UCC recruiters, faculty, staff and students while learning more about the University’s programmes and pathways to tertiary education.

Several organisations joined UCC at selected stops, extending the reach of the initiative by providing access to information and services beyond university recruitment. Participating organisations included the Students’ Loan Bureau (SLB), Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), National Housing Trust (NHT), Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) and the Ministry of Health’s Morant Bay Department. Powerade also supported the initiative as a sponsor, providing refreshments for staff throughout the tour.

These partnerships complemented UCC’s educational outreach by connecting communities with resources and services that can support their academic, professional and personal development.

UCC Acting President, Professor Bernadette Warner, said the initiative forms part of the University’s broader commitment to national development and widening access to higher education.

“The Roadshow is part of how UCC continues to widen access to higher education and strengthen its national reach. It gives us another way to connect our programmes with the aspirations of Jamaicans and support the development of the skills and talent our country needs,” Professor Warner said.

The Roadshow was further amplified through outside broadcasts and community engagement led by Mello FM, IRIE FM and Nationwide News Network. Interviews with UCC representatives provided an additional avenue for the University to share information about its programmes, admissions opportunities and commitment to making tertiary education more accessible.

Reflecting on the initiative, UCC’s Public Relations and Events Coordinator, Sashoi Nichols-Dobson, said the Roadshow demonstrated the value of taking the University’s message directly into communities.

“The Roadshow was more than generating applications. It gave us an opportunity to take UCC directly into communities, listen to prospective students, answer their questions and demonstrate the value of collaboration in expanding access to higher education. Seeing our staff, students, academic teams and partners work together across seven stops was a powerful reflection of the UCC spirit and our commitment to meeting people where they are.”

The conclusion of the seven-stop tour marks another step in UCC’s continued effort to strengthen connections with communities across Jamaica, widen access to information and create clearer pathways to quality higher education.
