Vere United held the highly fancied Waterhouse to a 0-0 draw in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) encounter at Stadium East on Sunday.

The point earned from the match, carried Waterhouse to third in the points standing after three matches, the same as Harbour View, who have scored more goals.

Both Waterhouse and Harbour View have an identical goal difference of two, but Harbour View have scored four goals with two against, while Waterhouse have scored three with one against.

Vere jumped two places to fourth in the standing, which is being led by Portmore United on six points.

Waterhouse controlled most of the action in the match but failed to turn the territorial advantage into goals, although creating some good opportunities throughout.

“We are very pleased with a point. We knew that getting a point from this game would be a good achievement for us. I thought we did exceptionally well.”

Vere also made it difficult for Waterhouse with good defending, spearheaded by goalkeeper Kadeem Davis, who made several excellent saves.

Vere’s coach Donovan Duckie and Waterhouse’s assistant coach Damion Gordon had different aspects about the match that they were pleased with.

“We are very pleased with a point. We knew that getting a point from this game would be a good achievement for us. I thought we did exceptionally well. We started a bit slow so we allowed them too much room to play, but as the game progressed, I think we did much better,” Duckie said.

“I am not disappointed with the performance of the team, but a little bit with the result. We did move the ball, changing the point of attack, but they defended well and this is football. There are aspects of the game, there are game-by-game situations that the result will be like this,” Gordon said.
