
Twenty-three-year-old Odain Barron has been arrested and charged for the murder of Shantal Calder-Whittingham, a 30-year-old woman, also known as ‘Pokie’, from Brighton district, Little London, in Westmoreland.
Barron goes by the aliases ‘Bududup’ or ‘Indian’ and is a labourer from Coolie Town District, Paradise, Westmoreland.
He was arrested and later charged with the murder of Calder-Whittingham on August 25, after he gave a caution statement to the police. The 23-year-old was also charged with shooting with Intent and unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon.
His court date is being arranged.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that the incident occurred on August 12, around 3:30 p.m. Calder-Whittingham and her relatives were reportedly leaving their home when a group of four men, including one they had a previous dispute with, approached them. Allegedly, the men opened gunfire, hitting the victims and fled the scene.
The police were called to the scene, where they found the 30-year-old and her relatives injured in a pool of blood. They were taken to the hospital, but Calder-Whittingham was pronounced dead.
