
Chairman of the Wisynco Group, William Mahfood, says Jamaica needs to uplift and build the capacity of its young people, using education as a major driving force for the country’s development.
“We have so much opportunity as a country and it is through education, development both technical as well as vocational that were are going to build Jamaica. Wisynco, in the last year, has made huge investments in education. We did J$20 million through our water programme in terms of the give back to both our own employees, as well as through the water promotion educate Jamaica we had J$12 million dollars that were given in sponsorships,” the distribution and manufacturing company chairman said.
He was speaking at The Growing Together with Small Business Training Programme geared towards helping MSMEs achieve better business results, thus increasing their revenues and profits. The event was Wisynco’s headquarters on Lakes Pen Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The online programme, which was launched in August of this year, is set to run until February 2024 and is targeting 1,000 MSME customers of the manufacturing and distribution company.
“Education personally for me in terms of how I focus my time and developing more and more programmes of mentoring for young people…those areas of focus on micro, small and enterprise as well as education are very very very dear to me and as a company, they are critical to our future success. Wisynco has programmes like the track programme, we just recently had a graduation with a number of CXC passes. I am very pleased to say this is one of the things that I have personally been involved with,” he said.
