The cyclical pricing nature of State-owned refinery, Petrojam, has swung negatively for Jamaican industry and the motoring public with baseline pump costs again rising for a second-straight week.

Petrojam, in its closely watched petroleum product price index, rose 87-octane gasolene costs J$2.06 to open at an introductory price of J$166.39 per litre, after applied taxes effective Thursday (December 28).

This week’s price increase was most pronounced for kerosene oil and ultra-low sulphur diesel, which jumped J$3.06 and J$2.25 respectively.

It is expected that retailers will add their mark-ups to the announced prices.

Closing out a tumultuous year, prices for 87- and 90-octane gasolene as well as butane, propane, asphalt and heavy fuel oil end the year comparatively higher than the similar period in 2022 across the Petrojam commodity index.
