PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), a subsidiary of Grupo Aeroportuario Del Pacífico (GAP) and operator of the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA), advises that a critical element of the airport’s Runway End Safety Area (RESA) Implementation Project and an electrical upgrade project will be conducted this evening.

The runway will be temporarily closed from 7:00 PM today, Thursday, November 27, 2025, until

4:00 AM on Friday, November 28, 2025, to facilitate the relocation of the Runway 12 threshold and the installation of switchgear redundancy. The airport will briefly close after final flight operations. Normal airport operations will resume following the completion of this work.

The runway closure and electrical upgrade have been communicated to the airport community and stakeholders through appropriate aeronautical notices. There are no flights scheduled during this maintenance window and passenger travel will not be impacted. However, airport users and the surrounding community may observe increased activity on airport grounds associated with the RESA project.

The runway work is part of PACKAL’s ongoing multi-billion-dollar project (J$11.5 billion/US$72 million) to extend the runway for implementation of the RESA, which supports the airport’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in accordance with the Civil Aviation Act (2012) and international aviation regulations.

The RESA project, which is part of the wider NMIA transformation programme currently underway at the airport, will extend the runway by 300 meters, providing additional safety areas at both ends and creating safer spaces for aircraft operations and emergency protocols. The project represents the single largest investment in the airport’s safety infrastructure and is expected to be completed by July 2027.
