, is demanding answers following media reports that one company has been allowed to accumulate more than $26 million in unpaid property taxes and penalties. 

According to an recently article published New Falmouth Resorts Limited has failed to pay property taxes for six consecutive years, dating back to 2020, on more than 260 acres of land in Coopers Pen, Trelawny. The property is now valued at approximately $390 million, with more than $2 million reportedly accumulated in penalties.
“How is it that one company is allowed to accrue so much in outstanding taxes, while average Jamaicans are hauled before the courts for far less? This is a glaring injustice to every taxpayer who meets their obligations on time,” Mr Robinson said.

Mr Robinson said the matter demands urgent scrutiny, particularly given that the Government fell $28.7 billion short of its revenue and grants target in the first quarter of the 2026/2027 fiscal year. The shortfall has already contributed to the Government having to raise $30 billion in new borrowing. “With revenue collection already under such strain, every dollar owed to the Treasury matters enormously. Does the Commissioner of Taxes have an interest in this matter, and will the full statutory penalties and interest be imposed, without fear or favour?” Mr Robinson asked.

The Opposition Spokesperson said stronger and more consistent enforcement, supported by the Government’s new digital tools, could significantly bolster tax revenues without the need for additional tax measures. 

“You may recall that I pointed this out in my Budget presentation earlier this year, when I said that the Government must focus on improving compliance and enforcement rather than continually looking to increase the tax burden on Jamaicans who are already paying their fair share,” Mr Robinson said.

Mr Robinson also questioned how many other companies across Jamaica have similarly large outstanding tax liabilities and called on the Government to disclose this information without delay. “Jamaicans deserve to know whether the same standard of enforcement applies to everyone, or only to those without influence,” Mr Robinson said.

The People’s National Party is calling for full transparency, stronger enforcement and the equal application of the law to every taxpayer, regardless of status, wealth or influence.
