In light of the recent resignation of former Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green, that was tendered today (September 15), current Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Audley Shaw will assume interim responsibility of the agriculture ministry.
In a release from the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday (September 15), it was noted that Shaw was asked to assume the additional responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, owing to the resignation of Minister Floyd Green.
Green, the member of parliament of St Elizabeth South Western, came under heavy scrutiny today after a viral video surfaced on Tuesday evening (September 14) showing himself and Jamaica Labour Party councillor Andrew Bellamy, partying and flouting COVID-19 protocols on a government-ordered no movement day.
Following a meeting with the prime minister earlier today, Green was asked to tender his resignation which he followed with a public apology to the many Jamaicans his actions had disappointed.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, as Shaw assumes the responsibilities of Green, “the Government will ensure that all current programmes of work and policy direction are maintained to yield the maximum benefits to our farmers and our local agricultural sector.”
