Bunny Wailer to be honoured in Ethiopia on 79th birthday

Reggae legend Bunny Wailer will be celebrated in Ethiopia today, April 10th , as members of the Jamaican and Rastafarian community in Shashamane gather to honour what would have been his 79th birthday.
The tribute forms part of Rastafari Month activities and will also remember Donald “Flippins” Leach, a key figure in the Rastafari repatriation movement who passed away in 2012.
The event will take place at the Lily and Vernon Leach Lounge in Shashamane, a town often seen as a spiritual home for Rastafarians. It will reflect on Bunny Wailer’s life, from his role as a founding member of The Wailers to his influence on reggae and Rastafari culture worldwide. He died on March 2nd , 2021, at age 73, following complications from a stroke.
Proceeds from the tribute will go toward projects linked to ongoing initiatives in the area, including healthcare support for elders, assistance for a local school, and development efforts within Shashamane. A portion will also be directed to the Leach family.
