Last season’s the best team in the EPL and after coming up short for a few seasons, deserved to win the EPL and did so in style.

Hard work paid off for Arsenal’s Head Coach Mikel Arteta. 

This season, the plan is to do even better to go beyond just retaining the EPL crown.

Today, “The Gunners” slipped up against Brighton. They were 2-0 down  by half-time, and Arsenal had no answers

Arsenal still need an out-and-out striker, one capable of netting 20 goals a season.

Today Arsenal were lacklustre away from home, and it can only be hoped that this was a one-off blip. Arsenal have been unbeaten in their last seven games and last lost in the EPL to Manchester City back in April.

This performance today by Arsenal was a timid one. This is a day Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Ray would sooner forget. It’s not often he has to pick up the ball three times from his net. 

Speaking after this surprising loss, Arteta said: ‘Extremely disappointed, but first of all, I think we have to congratulate Brighton for the victory. I think they deserve it; they were the better team. Brighton were a gear up from us. We were extremely poor technically and not respecting the game.

“And from our side, there were certain basics that you need to accomplish in football, especially in the Premier League, that we were very far from.”

This crushing defeat at Brighton is sobering, and Arsenal will want to put it behind them and regroup after the international break.

Brighton are now third in the EPL table, behind Arsenal who remain in second place. Manchester City are three points clear at the top of the table.

“What we’ve done and the way we’ve competed and the number of games we’ve won has been remarkable, but this is a big lesson for all of us to understand what it takes to win at this level,” said Arteta.
