Peter Bunting, the People’s National Party’s spokesperson on citizen security, has called on the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to keep the public informed about the investigation of two separate incidents of “intimidation and assault” perpetrated by Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the Trinityville Division, Dean Jones.
According to Bunting, the first incident took place on Sunday evening when Jones and a group of JLP supporters reportedly went to a PNP workers’ meeting where they engaged in provocative and intimidating actions to disturb the operations.
The second incident took place on Monday and has been circulating on social media. In the video, a man in orange was seen approaching the JLP caretaker. As tensions rose, the JLP caretaker seemingly reached for his firearm. Others intervened, and the incident was diffused.
Both incidents were reported to the police.

“I condemn these heinous acts in the strongest possible terms. Violence and intimidation have no place in our political discourse. I call on the JCF to swiftly and thoroughly investigate these incidents, holding those responsible accountable for their actions. Such behaviour undermines the democratic values we hold dear and threatens the safety of our citizens,” said Bunting.
The Police High Command, through Deputy Commissioner of Police for Crime Fitz Bailey, is being urged to keep the public informed about the investigative process.
The former security minister is urging political candidates to prioritise a peaceful electoral process. He further called for the return of civility and respect for the rule of law in Trinityville and Jamaica in general.
Local government elections are scheduled to take place on February 26. Candidates will be nominated on February 8.
