The government of Jamaica yesterday signed contracts to advance the delivery of Semi-Permanent Housing Solutions in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth, marking another important step in efforts to provide suitable shelter for families affected by Hurricane Melissa. 

Southland Construction Limited will undertake works in St. Elizabeth, while DT Brown Construction Limited will undertake works in Westmoreland. The two parishes are slated to receive approximately 125 and 143 housing solutions, respectively.  

The scope of works will include excavation for foundations and footings, construction of bases and associated external works, installation of sewage and water distribution systems, as well as the construction of internal wall partitions and installation of associated fittings and fixtures within the housing units.

Given the urgent need to provide suitable shelter to affected families, the works will be advanced on an accelerated basis, while ensuring compliance with all required technical, safety, and accountability standards. 

The contract signing represents another significant step in the ongoing recovery effort, as the Government continues working to provide safe and suitable shelter for families impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
