It is now February and it was supposed to be Tottenham Spur’s winter of discontent.

With horrendous performances in the EPL and languishing in 15th place, it looked rather grim for the white side of North London.

Worse, still to come Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal over the next few weeks.

It could very well be likely that Spurs would be dragged into a relegation battle and find themselves in a far more dismal position than last season under Ange Postecoglou.

Come half-time it was going according to the script. Spurs found themselves 2-0 down and were being outplayed by a Manchester City who have won only once in their last six EPL games.

Those in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium must have felt they were looking at a 4-0 drubbing with Frank getting the sack in the morning.

But the Dane switched things up in the second half, opting for a back four formation and encouraged Xavi Simons to play higher up the pitch.

Yves Bissouma looks out of sorts since his return and had a torrid time of it today. His carelessness led to Rayan Cherki scoring City’s first goal.

The second Manchester City goal was scored on the stroke of half-time by the Ghanian Semenyo.

Come the second half, Solanke was able to bundle the ball past City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and gave Spurs a fighting chance to get something out of this game. There was something to play for, with Xavi Simons  turning it on.

Solanke’s second goal has to be one of the most amusing goals of the season with a sensational scorpion kick that lobbed over Donnarumma’s head and into City’s goal.

Game on. 

Spurs were unlucky not to claim a win today as they pressed for victory. This draw will ease the pressure on Frank – for a while.

Now in 14th position in the EPL Spurs have not won a match in their last six EPL games. They have won only two of twelve league games at home.

Manchester City are second in the table, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

After the match, a relieved Thomas Frank said: “ I am happy that we finally got something out of a big second half. We finally got something and we are on the right track, I would say. I have plenty of support. We are definitely still in the market. We are hit a little bit hard with injuries but let’s see.

“Today, I think that the character and mentality of the players showed. At half-time we still stayed calm.

“ We made changes, we tried to instill belief. And how they went out second half and came back in a situation where it is fair to say we are not in the best place, that just shows everything about the group .

“That never-say-die thing, they have shown that for quite a long time now. But we got the result now which is big.”

Spurs face Manchester United next Saturday at Old Trafford.
