The FastElaine Foundation is all set to launch its first initiative in Banana Ground, Manchester, on Saturday (December 18).
Banana Ground is the hometown of Elaine Thompson-Herah, who won three gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan in the summer.
Scheduled to start at about 1:00 pm, Elaine Thompson-Herah’s fledgling foundation plans to distribute care packages to members of the community. The packages that will contain useful household items, will be distributed from tents provided by National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Flow, sponsors of the Olympic champion.
And, to ensure the safety of the residents, sanitisation stations will be set up and there will be temperature checks. Masks will also be distributed.
In addition to NCB and Flow, several other sponsors have come on board including Honey Bun, Tradewinds Citrus Limited via their Tru Juice brand, Eve Foods and Red Bull.
Just over a week ago, Thompson-Herah announced that she was starting the FastElaine Foundation that would target children from under-served communities providing them with school supplies and introducing a feeding programme.
Critically, the foundation also plans to provide some of these vulnerable children with emotional support in the form of counselling.
The foundation intends to achieve these goals through partnerships with a number of international charitable foundations like the United Kingdom-based The Prince’s Trust and Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) which is based in New York.
The FastElaine Foundation is also being backed by Thompson-Herah’s own sponsors Nike, NCB and Flow Jamaica. Thompson-Herah will also contribute to the resources from the proceeds from the meets in which she competes.
