An early morning fire tore through part of the roof at the Olympic Velodrome in Rio de Janeiro.

Around 80 firefighters and 20 fire engines responded after the alarm was raised shortly after 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Crews battled flames both inside and outside the venue, working quickly to prevent damage to the cycling track and protect exhibits housed in the onsite Olympic Museum.

Early checks brought some relief, confirming that the track itself was not affected. Officials say it remains in good condition, though cleaning and maintenance will be needed before the facility can reopen.

The velodrome, a key venue during the 2016 Summer Olympics, holds memories of standout performances, including multiple gold medal wins by Great Britain in both Olympic and Paralympic competition.

No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed the fire did not spread to other areas of the Olympic Park.
