On Saturday, August 19, Girls Skate Jamaica (GSJ) brought together the crew for a day of cruising and skatepark vibes.

For the second time this year, GSJ hosted riders from the skateboarding, roller skating, rollerblading and BMX communities for a one-of-a-kind daylong experience. From hill rides on Stony Hill, to an afternoon session at Freedom Skatepark, topped off with a link-up at Wickie Wackie Beach Bar, the “Cruise Out, Di Crew’s Out Part 2” all-day activity showed why it has become a signature event drawing interest from riders of all types.

Launched by Kayla Wheeler with the establishment of Girls Skate Day in August 2022, GSJ offers summer classes for young women of various ages and abilities. GSJ has been a huge success, with hundreds of girls getting access to skateboarding, quality instruction and mentorship.

Organised by Wheeler and Kadiya Mcdonald, Cruise Out, Di Crew’s Out Part 2 returned by popular demand after its debut earlier this year. For this second edition, the public showed their love by booking out the 24-seater bus in less than 48 hours of the event being introduced.

Many who couldn’t find room in the bus arrived by car separately. Reflecting the inclusive, community atmosphere that Girls Skate Jamaica is known for, participants included sponsored professional athletes, alongside first-time skaters.

Cruise Out, Di Crew’s Out 2 was made possible by Sandals Foundation, Concrete Jungle Foundation, Freedom Skatepark and Jamaica Nice.
