Group insurance plan with critical illness, life and health coverage

Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited has introduced JTA Protect Plus, a new group insurance plan for eligible members and administrative staff of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) and their dependents. 

The plan, formally introduced following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sagicor Life Jamaica and the JTA on Friday, August 14, provides voluntary access to Critical Illness, Supplemental Life and Supplemental Health insurance coverage. 

Designed to complement the protection already available to educators through Sagicor Life, JTA Protect Plus provides another avenue for teachers and their families to strengthen their financial preparedness against serious illness and other unexpected life events. The introduction of JTA Protect Plus has the potential to benefit over 20,000 JTA members across Jamaica, expanding access to additional insurance protection for educators and their families.

Sagicor’s longstanding relationship with the JTA 

CEO of Sagicor Life Jamaica, Willard Brown said JTA Protect Plus represents a natural next step in Sagicor’s longstanding relationship with the JTA and its continued commitment to supporting Jamaica’s educators.

JTA Protect Plus adds to that, allowing us to expand access to the kind of coverage members can benefit from. For his part, JTA President, Mark Malabver welcomed the introduction of the plan, noting its alignment with the Association’s continued focus on the welfare of its members, noting, “there are few things more unsettling for a family than having to confront a serious illness while also worrying about the financial burden that may come with it. Our teachers dedicate their lives to caring for, nurturing and educating the nation’s children, and they deserve to know that there are systems in place to support them when they themselves need care. This initiative speaks to that responsibility. 

Continuing, the JTA boss contended, “It (JTA Protect Plus)  is about compassion, security and standing with our members during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. For the JTA, improving the welfare of our teachers is not simply an obligation; it is at the heart of who we are.”

Members interested in enrolling in JTA Protect Plus may do so through the Sagicor Connect online platform. They will also have the opportunity to sign up during the upcoming JTA Conference this Monday, August 17.
