Golding outlines his own ideas on how to ‘Re-Ignite the Nation For Greatness’

Opposition Leader Mark Golding, sitting down with Television Jamaica’s Smile Jamaica hosts Neville Bell and Dahlia Harris on Wednesday (August 10), and considering what he believes is necessary to improve the island’s future, outlined that the People’s National Party’s has already started its own efforts to ‘Re-Ignite the Nation for Greatness’
As PNP president, Golding said one of his greatest concerns has been healing his party of the friction left in the wake of several internal leadership competitions throughout the past 15 years.
He said he has therefore taken on the responsibility of healing and mending to ensure that the
PNP is in top-notch shape if and the party returns to power.
“We have to realise the true potential of the Jamaican people… . We don’t spend sufficient resources in developing our human capital.”

Asked about the current state of the country, Golding shared that, though there have been tremendous shortcomings, especially in the area of crime and violence as well as social development, it is best to focus on the positives.
“We have to invest in our people,” the Golding said.
“We have to realise the true potential of the Jamaican people… . We don’t spend sufficient resources in developing our human capital.”
Golding believes it is necessary that the country invest more heavily in early childhood development to equip the youth with the necessary basic skills going into secondary school.
He further shared his strong desire to see Jamaica as a Republic, with “no more delay”.
Golding wants the process to be initiated as soon as possible as he believes it is key to the development of the country.
‘JLP GOVERNMENT FOCUSED ON PR AND HYPE’
When asked why the PNP should be the organisation given the responsibility of running the country again, Golding responded: “Jamaica needs to have a Government that is focused on real issues confronting the country and less on public relations (PR) and hype.”
He added: “This [Jamaica Labour Party] Government is failing in critical respects – crime and violence being a major one and in the development of our people and our human resources. Their track record when it comes to integrity in public life and the use of public resources is extremely poor and that is undermining the confidence of the population in our political system… .”
