Tajay Gayle qualified for the final of the men’s long jump at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday (July 31), but there will be some concerns in the Jamaican camp as he limped from the pit after completing his best jump.
Gayle with a heavily bandaged left leg soared through the air and produced a wonderful third jump of 8.14 metres.
He just barely took himself from the pit, before collapsing on the track and then to a chair for medical attention. Gayle had fouled his first attempt and did 6.72 on his second.
His distance was the fourth farthest going into the final as Cuba’s Miguel Echevarria had the best qualifying jump with a season best of 8.50 metres, with Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece having the second best of 8.22 and Yuki Hashioka of Japan following with 8.17.
Meanwhile, Chad Wright in the men’s discus did 62.56 metres on his third attempt to finish ninth in the final.

He was edged out for a final three throws by Sam Mattis of the United States of America (USA) who did 63.88 metres.
Daniel Stahl of Sweden won the men’s discus with 68.90 as compatriot Simon Pettersson got the silver with 67.39 and Lukas Weisshaidinger of Austria bronze with 67.07.
