Jamaican football star Leon Bailey put in a top performance today as Aston Villa beat Everton 3-0 at home.
The team from the Midlands got off to a laboured start and seemed unable to get any reward for breaching Everton’s defence time and time again. Everton until today, enjoyed an unbeaten record in the 2021/22 EPL season under its new manager Rafa Benitez.
On came Leon Baily in the 59th minute and immediately injecting verve and creativity into his side. Signed for 25 million pounds from Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen, his tempo and skills proved a handful for Everton. Bailey made one goal from his corner kick and scored a blinder in the 75th minute.
This is his first goal for Aston Villa this season and he is expected to score many during this campaign.
Bailey is settling down well in England supported by his brother, girlfriend and baby son.
He had to come off after picking up an injury to his quad. With some big games coming up against Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Wolves this was more of a precautionary measure and nothing too serious.
Speaking after the game Aston Villa manager Dean Smith said: “I thought Leon would lift us a bit. He’s really special. He’s a really good player. That’s why we got him here. He’s a good lad; the lads love him. He’s really humble and a good person.
“I hope (the injury) it’s just a tight thigh, that’s what he said to the doctors. We hope we caught it in time.”
Bailey speaking with English press said: “It means so much to me. To accomplish what I did in 21 minutes is such an amazing feeling.
“To have my family there, to have the fans chanting my name when I was going on, it’s such a great feeling. I feel I’ve welcome myself here as a Villa player.”
