Jamaican track and field sprinter, Julian Forte, took to Instagram early Saturday (August 7) to share his disappointment about not getting a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Forte, who competed in three events at the Games, said it was emotionally painful to see his “dream slip right through his fingers.”
According to Forte, being an Olympian was not enough of an achievement for him, as he really wanted to secure a medal.
“I thought very hard about quitting last night. Not trying to sound ungrateful but just being an Olympian isn’t nearly enough of an achievement for me, ” said Forte in an Instagram post.
“This is my 4th championship going home without a medal. The emotional pain I felt last night was indescribable as I saw my dream slip right thru my fingers. Am I so unworthy and undeserving of such accomplishments even after training so hard? Is it that this is just not for me? So many questions that I can’t seem to find the answers to,” added Forte.
According to Forte, he had grown “sick” of hearing clichés like nothing “happens before its time and “your time will come” and while he didn’t want to sound ungrateful, he had just grown weary.
“The support I’ve been getting is tremendous [though] I often feel undeserving of that,” he said,.
“These are just my very human and vulnerable thoughts that I’m choosing to share to maybe shed some light on what a lot of us athletes feel after painful disappointment,” he added.
This is the 28-year-old’s first Olympic Games, prior to this he competed at the World Championships in London.
